The Art of Rolling the Dice

In which our heros find themselves out to sea

A Line to Kill by Anthony Horowitz:

Stars: 4

Series: Hawthorne and Horowitz

I’m kind of addicted to these two right now. This is the 3rd in the series and I just started listening to the 4th this morning. The 5th comes out in April and I’ve already got my request into Libby.

It’s like listening to an episode of Midsomer Murders and I just love that show. If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie, this series is perfect. Is the solution to the murders overly complex, yep. Are there 5 possible suspects and you know you are going to pick the wrong one, just like the fictional Horowitz, of course. Is the final reveal perfect, yes indeed it is.

This was a locked room mystery - Hawthorne and Horowitz travel to the Channel Island of Alderley to attend a literary festival. There is a motley crew of other authors who might all have a motive to kill the main sponsor of the festival, who ends up dead after the welcome night party. Once the body is discovered, the island is locked down and the former detective and his reluctant biographer must figure out who the killer is before anyone else ends up dead.

This series is great for anyone who loves Richard Osman. I’ve only listened to the Audibles and I have to say, I really love Rory Kinnear’s narration. He does a fabulous job relaying the personalities of Hawthorne and Horowitz.
